Wallets and Sign-in
You sign in to the OhShii Launcher and the OhShii Locker with a wallet. The wallet decides which account (principal) you act as: your purchases, locks, refunds, votes, delegations and verification are all recorded on-chain under that principal.
What the sign-in window offers
Section titled “What the sign-in window offers”| Sign-in method | Shown by default | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Internet Identity 2.0 | Yes | Recommended. The only method the apps are built and tested against, including for voting. |
| Plug Wallet | No (see Showing Plug) | Available, but not recommended. |
| Internet Identity (legacy) | No (same as Plug) | Deprecated. Kept for people who still need to move to Internet Identity 2.0. |
| NFID Wallet | No | Supported in the past; removed (see Why NFID Wallet was removed). |
Always use Internet Identity 2.0. It is the sign-in method the apps are built and tested against. Voting in particular depends on your sign-in method continuing to work, so if you want to vote, use Internet Identity 2.0.
Plug: available, but not recommended
Section titled “Plug: available, but not recommended”Plug and NFID Wallet were both supported in earlier versions of the apps. Plug is still available, but Plug may stop working with future versions of the apps, and so you may not always be able to vote with it. A problem with a third-party wallet could prevent you from voting or from managing your locks and voting hotkey.
That is why the sign-in window shows only Internet Identity 2.0 by default and Plug is hidden.
Showing Plug
Section titled “Showing Plug”There are two ways to show the full list (Plug and legacy Internet Identity):
- For one visit — the URL. Add
?wallets=allto the address of any page, for examplehttps://launcher.ohshii.io/?wallets=allorhttps://locker.ohshii.io/?wallets=all. It works on any route. The full list appears while that parameter is in the address. - Always, on this browser — the checkbox. Once the full list is showing, tick “Always show all wallet options on this device (not recommended)” at the bottom of the sign-in window. From then on the full list appears every time, without the URL parameter. The choice is stored in this browser only, and separately for each app: setting it on the Launcher does not set it on the Locker.
To turn the choice off: open the sign-in window (it still shows the full list), untick the same checkbox: the full list closes, and from then on only Internet Identity 2.0 is shown. If the address still carries ?wallets=all, the full list keeps showing until you open a page without it.
Why NFID Wallet was removed
Section titled “Why NFID Wallet was removed”NFID Wallet sign-in was removed for long-term robustness and better protection against cycle drain. Here is the mechanism.
- What cycle drain is. Every canister pays, in cycles, for the work it executes. A read (a query) answered normally costs the canister nothing extra. But the Internet Computer also lets anyone send the same read as an update call, and then the canister pays for executing it. That is how an outsider can make a canister pay for work at no cost to themselves, again and again, until its cycles run low.
- The protection. OhShii’s canisters refuse a read that arrives from outside as an update call before it is executed. A read sent the normal way is still answered as before.
- Why NFID Wallet cannot work with it. In the way the apps connected to NFID Wallet, every call — reads included — was signed by the wallet and sent as an update call (the wallet standard ICRC-49). Under the protection above, every one of those reads would be refused, so with NFID Wallet every read in the app would fail.
- Why there is no exception for it. A canister cannot tell a wallet’s read sent as an update from an outsider’s read sent as an update: they are the same kind of call. Making an exception for one would reopen the drain for everyone.
OISY Wallet was never offered: it connects only through signed calls of the same kind, so its reads would be refused in the same way.
If you used NFID Wallet
Section titled “If you used NFID Wallet”- Your NFID Wallet session on the apps is closed, and a notice says so.
- Everything recorded on-chain under your NFID Wallet account is unchanged — locks, positions, refunds, votes, delegations, verification.
- NFID Wallet is a different account. Your NFID Wallet account is its own principal; signing in with another method, such as Internet Identity 2.0, gives you a different principal. Records created with NFID Wallet are therefore not shown when you sign in another way; they stay with your NFID Wallet account.
Other wallets are other accounts
Section titled “Other wallets are other accounts”This applies to every wallet, not only NFID: Plug, NFID Wallet and Internet Identity each give you a separate principal. Pick one — Internet Identity 2.0 — and keep using it, so that your locks, Voting Power, delegations and verification stay together.
